With sea-level rise, most of the countries will be flooded and the lands will be underwater. however, with no place to live, humanity should abandon earth.
The challenge was to restore and rebuild the environment. With the hope of a better future, humanity shall go underwater while newly created technologies for ecological restoration are operating. That is to say, to keep living on earth, new technologies are necessary. Thus Our solution was to create The Underwater city!
Why The Underwater City?
La Maison en Petits Cubes (つみきのいえ Tsumiki no Ie, “The House of Small Cubes”) is a 2008 Japanese animated short subject film created by Kunio Katō, with music by Kenji Kondo and produced by Robot Communications.
As his town was flooded by water, an aged widower is forced to add additional levels onto his home to stay dry. But when he accidentally drops his favorite smoking pipe into the lower submerged levels of his home, his search for the pipe eventually makes him relive scenes from his eventful life (including his time before the flooding began).
The animation became the vision of the underwater city. It describes how miserable the future could be and shows the future life’s hunger for the days of the past. Thus, the main reason to create a city underwater. To keep the life where it belongs and where there are memories of humanity with the hope to create a brighter future: “Neo Atlantis – The Underwater City”.
The Design
The main goal of design is to save humans, animals as well as different ecosystems and to summit up “life”. The “Mother Base” is the main area of the underwater city. It is connected to different climate simulators. Protecting life against sea-level rise is the absolute goal of the project. With the hope of ecological restoration, humanity shall continue living on earth.
Final Note
The underwater city was an opportunity to explore the future and the way to preserve life on earth. Exploring different subjects in architecture is interesting. Other than the underwater city, we also tested the routine of using artificial intelligence in our projects. you can learn more at this link and this one. In addition, you can learn more about using parametric design tools at this link. For more detail check out the gallery on this project.
